Infierno

This year I again mean to start the ritual of giving something up for Lent. Not that I got ashes, or owt like that. However, I can't help thinking it's good to do without, for a while. Therefore, I am almost entirely going without caffeine for the next thirty nine days. I say almost because I don't want to give up my tea in the morning. And I refuse to do without chocolate, particularly as we have some scrummy Godiva chocolates in our fridge at the mo.

However, no coke/doctor pepper/coffee.

NONE.

It must be said, this is not entirely to test my resolve / willpower / feel the power of sacrifice. Factored in must be the SUFFERING at the hands of caffeine that I have experienced in the last few days.

And maybe I'll have a few extra bucks to give to charity at the end of the month.

I'm all heart, me.

Yikes. I get that it's good to practice self-control, but if I couldn't have my morning cup, I would be a zombie the rest of the day. Actually, come to think of it, even with the morning cup I'm zombified. You can't win.

I'm not sure if it is helping my concentration, and feel the old GPA might take a dip this semester. Nonetheless, I only woke up twice last night. I feel I am making progress. And I am drinking Yorkshire Tea in the mornings (so strong one bag makes TWO CUPS!) so I think this is delaying the inevitable caffeine-withdrawal migraines and dizzy fits.

I myself am weaning of the caf-fiend too. When I realized that my throbbing evening headaches were due to jonesing, I decided to cut the dependency. A solid TWO WEEK mind-splitting head-ache later, and I'm a free woman.

Ah, the sweet, sweet smell of freedom. If that's not worth fighting for, what is? Congratulations.
