I am currently completely, utterly and dangerously (for sleep levels) addicted to Angry Birds.
Why did someone have to tell me about this? WHY?

A Change Will Do You Good
It's not really felt like much of a summer other than the sweltering weather. I didn't manage to do a lot of my favourite summer things, but it's too late - Autumn is clearly here. Indeed, the weather has notably changed and jackets and jumpers are now required when you're out of the sun. Today was one of those truly autumnal days - drizzle, a slight chill in the air but no coat required. We played a stonking game of football (I'm going to have a couple of stellar bruises) and then retreated to the warmth of a pub to watch the first full day of the NFL. I'm now pottering with a bit of work, and then will have a nice time watching the NFL, have a hot bath while listening to Radio 4, and then a nice Basque casserole that TOH makes for supper with a glass of wine and falling asleep on the sofa. No wonder it's TOH's favourite season.

Well-Heeled
It's not just sport that has been sacrificed due to the dodginess of my knee. Sadly, my collection of ridiculous high-heeled shoes has been not-so-well-worn of late, because my knee just can't take it. The exception I make is for weddings and for extremely important/posh dinners. The next day, I am made fully aware of the folly of that exception, but I can't resist it. There really is nothing like that masochistic pleasure in taking off your high heels after a night of dancing and feeling the burn.
An even sadder casualty has been flip-flops. Yes, the humble flip flop is no damned good for my knee - and no, not even the beloved havaiana does me any good. They are comfy on the sole, but for those of us with limited arches, they provide no blooming support whatsoever. And, despite my reluctance to embrace this, it has made a considerable difference to my knee to not wear them and so I am convinced that more support = more sport, at least.* Next year I shall have to invest in some better sandals, because my several-years-old payless ones just aren't cutting it. I've not quite sure how I shall deal with the beach, but I'll manage, I'm sure.
And in the meantime, for all things shoewise, I shall live vicariously through this wonderful lady.
* To whit, I ran 2.4 miles yesterday, my farthest for about 2.5 years, certainly outdoors. Hurrah!

Pottering
Have I mentioned how much I like to potter? It's definitely inherited from both my folks, who like focusing on something small and organising it. Never mind that what I do is ignore the giant amount of things that probably require more work and instead alphabetise my book collection. Which, having reorganised my clothing, is what I'm up to now. No, really. I have found a bajillion hangers to recycle at the dry cleaner's, and have sorted the wardrobe into categories and now am about to do the books. I've got a certain amount of my dear father's particularity about needing to do this, but sadly without his determination to follow through.
Then it's a quick half hour read on the sofa and then sleepsville. Can't wait.
